Nebraska man drunk in Court at DUI sentencing, say police

Authorities: Nebraska man too drunk for DUI sentencing

Papillion, NE
Authorities said a 30-year-old-man showed up so drunk for his sentencing for drunken driving that he missed his hearing and now faces even more time behind bars. Authorities said Jason Botos was driven to the Papillion courthouse on Thursday by his father, who needed help from deputies to get his son out of the vehicle.

Prosecutor Ben Perlman said Botos was so drunk he couldn't attend the hearing, so the judge issued a warrant. Deputies arrested Botos in the parking lot.

Another hearing is set for Tuesday. A jail spokeswoman said Botos remained in custody Friday. Botos' attorney didn't immediately return a call.

Botos had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving in a September 2009 collision with five other vehicles.

Nebraska woman arrested for DWI twice in one night by same cop, two different cars

Lincoln, NE

Think she had a hangover the next morning...?!
Police in Lincoln, Nebraska arrested a woman twice in one night in two different cars for driving drunk, according to the AP.

The woman was pulled over at 1:13 a.m. Wednesday after she allegedly made an illegal turn and was spotted swerving down a south Lincoln street.

The officer who stopped her said her blood-alcohol level was .19. That's more than twice the legal limit.

The woman was cited on suspicion of driving under the influence and negligent driving and taken to a detoxification center.

The same officer stopped the woman again about two hours later. This time she was driving her boyfriend's car. She was arrested for driving under the influence and negligent driving and taken to jail. Her blood-alcohol level then tested at .154.

Man Drinks Wite-Out To Beat DUI Rap

Omaha, NE

...More proof that the consumption of a large amount of alcohol (BAC of .287% qualifies) can result in the profound impairment of one's judgment.
A repeat drunk driver being held at the police station kept drinking--except this time he took a swig of correction fluid that was sitting on a tech's desk.

Police surveillance tape shows 33-year-old Juan Briceno taking a drink of Wite-Out. When he opens his mouth, his tongue is chalky white. His blood alcohol level, despite the glug: .287, or three-and-a-half times the legal limit.

A jury found Briceno guilty of driving while intoxicated. Prosecutors say the drink that Briceno snuck at the police station didn't affect his blood alcohol level. He'll be sentenced in October.

Nebraska woman's blood alcohol content (BAC) read at .415%

Consider this:
0.25 BAC: All mental, physical and sensory functions are severely impaired. Increased risk of asphyxiation from choking on vomit and of seriously injuring yourself by falls or other accidents.

0.30 BAC: STUPOR. You have little comprehension of where you are. You may pass out suddenly and be difficult to awaken.

0.35 BAC: Coma is possible. This is the level of surgical anesthesia.

0.40 BAC and up: Onset of coma, and possible death due to respiratory arrest.
Gee, did it ever occur to these cops that their infrared spectroscopy breath alcohol testing machine may be inaccurate and unreliable? At .415%, there would have been no driving, no few-minute-long low speed chase, no field sobriety test, no breath test, and no mug shot of a woman who is conscious. At .415%, there would have been a woman in a coma, near death (if not already dead due to respiratory arrest).

Omaha, NE
Sarpy County deputies said they arrested a woman whose blood-alcohol level registered higher than five times the legal limit for drivers. Deputies arrested Denise Thomson, 25, of Elkhorn, after they received a number of calls about an impaired driver on Interstate 80 Thursday afternoon.

In a news release, Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis said his office got calls about a teal vehicle going west that appeared to have children inside. Deputies chased the vehicle at low speeds for a few minutes before pulling the driver over at mile marker 431, the release said.

Sarpy County deputies said they performed a field sobriety test on Thomson, then took her to the Sarpy County Jail, where her blood-content tested at 0.415 percent. Davis told KETV NewsWatch 7 he believes that is the highest blood-alcohol reading he's seen in his career. More >>
