Caught on Tape: Holiday Drivers At Their Worst in Town and Country

Town & Country, MO

Dangerous drivers over the Memorial Day weekend were caught on tape by Town and Country Police. State grants put two extra Town and Country Police officers on patrol everyday during the holiday weekend. And the officer's dash board cameras caught everything from suspected DWI drivers to speeders.

Officers pulled over six drivers on suspicion of DWI and wrote 66 speeding tickets.

"It's concerning because anytime you've got a drunk driver or any driver that's driving at a high rate of speed irresponsibly down the highways you run the risk or getting somebody killed or injured," explained Corporal Chris Moore.

The battle against dangerous driving isn't only limited to holiday weekends. Town and Country police dash cam video caught a suspected drunk driver going north in the southbound lanes of I-270 near Manchester about 2:30 in the morning on May 10th. The wrong way driver passed one Town and Country police cruiser before another one finally stopped the car.

We showed the dash cam video of suspected DWI drivers to Meghan Carter with the Gateway Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. She says the enforcement efforts save lives.

"It's proven that enforcement works. When enforcement is out there, it does work," said Carter.

Corporal Moore has this message for motorists: "Drive responsible. We're going to be out there all the time. Our department never closes."

Moore is concerned about the summer driving season ahead because more people are on the roads. He says Town and Country Police will also do stepped up enforcement efforts during upcoming holidays like the Fourth of July and Labor Day.
