Mel Gibson completes DUI deal

Malibu, CA
Mel Gibson has been given the all-clear to get on with his life after completing the terms of his plea agreement following a much-publicized drunk-driving arrest in 2006.

The star appeared before a judge in a Malibu, Calif., courthouse on Wednesday and was told, "You're well on your way to success."

Gibson hit the headlines when he used anti-Semitic language during a boozy tirade on a police officer during a DUI arrest in California.

He pleaded no contest to driving while over the limit and he was fined, sentenced to three years probation and ordered to attend a year of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Gibson also publicly apologized to the Jewish community for his drunken remarks.

The actor must still serve half of his probation period, but he now has no more legal requirements to attend court or AA meetings.
