San Antonio Spurs' DeMarr Johnson arrested, charged with DWI

San Antonio, TX
San Antonio Spurs forward/guard DerMarr Johnson was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to a San Antonio police spokesman.
Johnson, 28, was pulled over late Saturday evening near Loop 1604 and Interstate 10 after police clocked the vehicle Johnson was driving speeding at 85 mph in a 65 mph zone, SAPD spokesman Joe Rios said.
The officer smelled alcohol on Johnson's breath, said Rios, and performed several field sobriety tests before arresting Johnson on suspicion of drunken driving.

A breathalyzer test performed on Johnson showed he was over the legal limit for drunken driving, said Rios, who did not say how much over the legal limit Johnson was at the time of the test.
Johnson posted $1,000 bond and was released about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Rios said.
Johnson told the San Antonio Express-News he "had a few cups of wine," and expected the arrest to affect his position with the team, according to a story posted on the newspaper's Web site.
Johnson, an unrestricted free agent with the Spurs, played in five games during the 2007-08 season, averaging 3.4 points per game.
Rios said this was Johnson's first offense for DWI, which carries a possible fine of up to $2,000, a maximum of 180 days in jail and a driver's license suspension ranging from 90 days to one year.
