Shia LaBeouf escapes DUI charges in car accident

‘Eagle Eye’ star Shia LaBeouf will not face DUI charges in a July car accident that crushed his hand. The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office announced that no charges will be filed against the actor due to “insufficient evidence.”

“After reviewing the case, we’ve declined to file any charges due to insufficient evidence,” said DA spokeswoman Jane Robison.

LaBeouf and his ‘Transformers 2’ co-star Isabel Lucas were involved in an accident with another vehicle in the early morning hours of July 27. The 22-year-old suffered injuries to his head, hand and knee. Lucas and the driver of the other vehicle were not injured.

After the crash, LaBeouf was cited with misdemeanor DUI. Since he refused to take a blood alcohol test after the accident, he will face possible suspension of his driver’s license.

“When and individual refuses to take a blood alcohol test, that person’s license is automatically suspended for six to nine months,” says sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Prosecutors will file criminal charges against the other driver, who caused the accident by running a red light.

Director says Shia LaBeouf wasn't DUI

“TRANSFORMERS” DIRECTOR Michael Bay has many powers, the ability to blow things up for the heck of it being the chief of them. Here’s another: long-distance DUI detection.

Bay insists to “Access Hollywood” that his “Transformers” star, Shia LaBeouf, was not drunk when he was involved in a crash early Sunday in West Hollywood. Though police later determined the actor was not at fault, he was booked on misdemeanor DUI because police on the scene believe he acted intoxicated.

“He was drinking hours and hours before,” Bay says.

But Bay says he was worried about his lead actor hurting himself when LaBeouf bought a motorcycle the week before the crash, which occurred in his pickup truck.

“I [said], ‘Dude! You cannot ride that motorcycle! If you crash, you put 1,500 people out of work.’ He said, ‘Okay, I won’t ride it, I won’t ride it. I’ll just drive my truck.’”

Work on the sequel has been delayed while LaBeouf recovers from surgery, but Bay also says he’s going to try to work LaBeouf’s hand injuries into the story.
