Houston Rockets point guard Rafer Alston will stand trial next month on a charge of driving while intoxicated, a judge ruled Wednesday.County Court at Law Judge Jean Spradling Hughes set an Oct. 22 trial for Alston, 32.
“We just wanted to get it done soon,” defense attorney Rusty Hardin said, adding that he expects the trial to take about two days.
A Houston police officer spotted Alston driving a 2008 Aston Martin without headlights in the 3000 block of Washington about 3 a.m. Aug. 7.
The charge against Alston is considered a misdemeanor because it would be his first DWI offense.
If convicted, Alston faces up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine. He remains free on $500 bail.
